What are amino acids?

Amino acids are molecules whose composition forms proteins. Upon proteins being digested, the product broken into is amino acids.

They are classified into 3

  • Essential amino acids
  • Non-essential amino acids
  • Conditional amino acids

There are nine essential amino acids, and this the body cannot produce hence required from food sources. This are namely; valine, tryptophan, threonine, phenylalanine, methionine, isoleucine, leucine, histidine.

On the other hand, non-essential amino acids can be produce by our bodies. This are; tyrosine, serine, praline, glycine, glutamine, cysteine, and arginine.

Conditional amino acids are not so much required except when you are sick.

The body of a human uses amino acids to recompose proteins, which help the body to;

  1. Grow
  2. Repair body tissue
  • Break down food

Amino acids are also in capability of alternative source of energy.

From which foods do we acquire these amino acids?
